Did you know you can currently BUY actual trashy seats from the Garden? The more you know! [10 Jun 2011|12:44pm]
[ music | Cross-Conference 'Cast from 5/20. ]

I spent the weekend enjoying sports, as I said, and there are plans -- temporarily tentative plans -- to maybe see more soccer this weekend, assuming I ever leave my bed again. Spent the week editing on Avid for the first time in four years, which makes for quite an exhausting mental exercise. It was also E3, so of course I had to stay up late to watch an obscene amount of demos, interviews, and conferences. (Post about that shit coming soon, since I can't assume everyone else is as much of a nerd as I am, and I like to provide services in the nerdy public's interest.)

I'd like to make all kinds of posts about various games and I think I even had some vaguely intelligent things to say. Like I want to talk about Friday's game and how I think people are really not taking the Sun seriously enough this year, which I'm fine with. (People can feel free to continue to underestimate Kelsey Griffin.) Do they have a chance to win a championship? Probably not and if I was writing this post yesterday, I would have said that with Seattle still in existence with their current roster, most teams don't stand a chance.

But then they got their ass kicked by Minnesota, likely the most cursed team in the league, and now I have to rethink my entire understanding of time, space, and the earth's very fucking rotation. WHAT IS GOING ON? (Maya Moore is talented. That's what's going on. Also it's Diana's birthday tomorrow and 29 is a lot of swats so Sue was distracted. AHEM.)

Anyway.

I wanted to rewatch Sunday's soccer game from my DVR, since viewing from home is an entirely different perspective from the field and I was curious. Also, there's rewind. Unfortunately I'm a moron who fucked up setting the DVR, so I don't have the game saved.

However! It should still be up on ESPN3, so I'll watch it sometime today or tomorrow and come back with legit not stupid notes. (First note: Lauren Cheney is trying to give me a fucking heart attack.)

Also, I can't look at tumblr at all until Saturday night because I'm a week behind on Doctor Who due to waiting for it to air here on my HDTV, god dammit.

"My tongue's the only muscle on my body that works harder than my heart." [05 Dec 2009|07:39pm]
I was going back through old entries in my journal and came across the stuff from the World Cup in 2007.

I'm not sure if it's weird or unhealthy how thoroughly I still don't really forgive Abby and Lil for what they did to that team at the time. (Banished from team meals, kept off the plane, no medal ceremony, pushing blame onto Les, and the fucking captain's armband. Ugh. Fucking Abby, man, I defended you for years. [info]thekatcameback hates you more than some people hate Aly Wagner, but I defended you, you fucking asshole. Ahem. But still! I am grateful for the redemption of Heather Mitts!)

Really wish I'd finished the fanvid I was making at the time when it would have had appropriate impact, but I confess to sometimes fucking around with it a little more anyway. The song is so ridiculously perfect, so thanks to [info]bluefragment for that.

What this post is really about is that I'm very much in the mood to do more work on my Hope Solo fic of chronic incompletion.

[preview] Hard Day for Dreaming (Again) by [info]sexonastick [30 Jun 2009|10:27am]
Title: Hard Day for Dreaming (Again)
Author: [info]sexonastick
Fandom: WNBA RPS (Western AU)
Pairing: Diana Taurasi/Sue Bird
Rating: R/NC-17. (Both overall and this particular section.)

To have a discussion about a WNBA AU, it helps to first assume a vague understanding of the original canon. So to sum it up: Diana Taurasi is the lovable goofball, Sue Bird is a bit of a control freak, and Lauren Jackson is burdened with keeping both idiots somewhat in line. (And believe it or not, the latter two -- pictured together in that photo -- are not the ones being slashed, but rather it's Sue/Diana because of constant things like this. Welcome to the wonderful world of sports: where no one believes in physical boundaries.)

Transplant them to the old west and Sue is a lady of the evening, Lauren's become saddled (ha, get it) with the job as deputy, and Diana's the town sheriff.

Of course, they're deputy and sheriff with a bit of a checkered past. (That's Lauren and Diana pictured below. Click for full size, etc.)

And this is just our jumping off point. Because what are we all here for?

That's right. The sexual tension!

( What's better for repression than the wide brim of a cowboy hat? )

A couple points of not so great interest. [30 Jun 2009|10:23am]
I am really bad at doing that whole posting the same thing in two places thing. This is partially that I'm bad in posting in one place once I fall out of the habit. (For whatever reason, ranging from new distractions to lack of former stimulation to whatever.)

So I am still alive and posting over here. (Shit and yet again I am reminded that I need to make a new journal header.) And I keep meaning to try to be more alive over here too, but not sure if work will allow. Maybe I'll find the time and space in between.

Repost of a fic preview for the LJ femslash little bang coming right up, however, as that's probably the only significant post I've made in a couple months.

But no, seriously, I WANT SOME DAMN PRET. [08 Feb 2009|01:40pm]
[ music | Young Jeezy - "Luv It" ]

Reposting from LJ.

I have two posts that I'm writing in my head, but right now I have to get ready to leave for work. Ugh. Actually have to do editing today, so I don't know if I'll have the mental energy to write something intelligent.

The first post is meta I kind of sort of promised [info]thenewhope about femslash and having a voice while navigating fandom's obscured perspective on privilege. Something like that. Reading some of the racist bullshit I've witnessed in and around fandom lately sort of put me off writing it for a while, because my experiences encountering privilege don't even compare, man. But sometimes I think a lot of it is the same old bullshit. Fandom: the most liberal, tolerant and self-aware place in the world, but only in its own head. Tell it otherwise and it'll tell you it voted for Obama, so chut up.

The other post was about the Multi-Fandom Incest Challenge, so I'll just link for now. I really do want to do a post, if only because it's almost a tradition. I like to take partial credit for the good work Seana used to do. I have never been and most likely never will be a BNF, but I can sometimes make a damn fine henchman. Muwaha.

Yes, there will be fic, assuming work doesn't get in the way. Assuming the thread keeps going long enough for me to finish.

Keep the light burning, ladies.

(Oh yeah, for those newish to my journal: I read and write fictional incest, almost universally between siblings. I always label and I don't blame anyone for disliking or even hating it. Just don't accuse me of in some way facilitating or approving of child abuse and we'll get along swimmingly, really.)
